MP Sumalatha condemns rape, murder of girl

Mysuru: Mandya MP Sumalatha Amabareesh condemned the rape and murder of a 12-year-old daughter of migrant workers, by a local boy in Mandya district.

The incident occurred at Hurugalawadi village in Maddur taluk Mandya district on Wednesday.

The girl who came along with her parents from Hagaribommanahalli village to cut sugarcane crops, was allegedly raped and murdered in the field. Koppa police have arrested the accused.

Condemning the incident, Ms Sumalatha directed the district administration to give compensation to the family. She stressed the need for the labour department to register the details of workers engaged in fields and factories.

She told police to provide proper protection to women at work place and ensure that such incidents don't repeat.
