Mysuru: Man from barber community faces social boycott for serving SCs
Mysuru: Man is on the cusp of major space odysseys but still there is no end to caste prejudice in some parts of rural India. Mallikarjun Shetty, of Savitha community from Hallare in Nanjangud taluk of Mysuru district has alleged that he is facing social boycott from leaders of Nayak community in the village for cutting the hair of the people from the SC community.
He has lodged a complaint in this regard with Nanjangud tahsildar Mahesh Kumar.
In his complaint, Mallikarjun Shetty has stated that, Nayak community leaders in the village objected to his services to SCs and they even passed an order in this regard. He said he would continue to serve the people from all the communities. He alleged that leaders from the Nayak community forced his son to consume alcohol and remove his clothes and they made a video of this. They made false accusation that he abused the community leaders. Mallikarjun further alleged that his family was subjected to social boycott and fine. In the complaint, he sought justice to his family.
Mr Mahesh Kumar has written to the assistant director, social welfare department and also Nanjangud circle inspector in this regard seeking investigation and necessary action.
The tahsildar has received four complaints of such incidents of social boycott in Nanjangud taluk in the past one year.
Official sources said that Nanjangud is a reserve constituency with 40 percent SC/ST population and a literacy rate of 71 percent.
