Turmoil at Malpe Beach
Udupi: Udupi's picturesque Malpe Beach, a popular tourist haven, finds itself embroiled in controversy after a video surfaced depicting a disturbing incident of assault on tourists that occurred on December 13. The video, captured by the beach's CCTV camera, portrays a group of boat operators aggressively chasing and attacking visitors, casting a shadow over the usually crowded and vibrant beach.
The viral footage has ignited public outrage as it circulates widely on social media platforms, prompting authorities to take swift action. Two cases have been registered at the Malpe police station in connection with the incident, each shedding light on different aspects of the disturbing event.
One case reports that locals intervened to halt a confrontation among tourists, while the second case alleges a direct assault on the visitors. A concerned resident of Bapu Thota in Malpe, has filed a case accusing tourist boat operators of endangering the lives of tourists with their aggressive actions.
Dr. Arun K, the Superintendent of Police overseeing Udupi district, mentioned, "We were aware of a dispute between two groups on Wednesday evening between 5:45 pm to 6 pm. Following the review of CCTV footage and a complaint filed by the on-site home guard, we've officially filed a case at Malpe police station. We are actively working to identify the individuals involved and will proceed with legal measures," he confirmed.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for heightened security measures and responsible tourism practices to ensure the safety and well-being of visitors to popular destinations like Malpe Beach. As investigations unfold, the authorities' commitment to identifying and penalising those responsible is crucial for maintaining the trust and confidence of tourists in the region.
