DIY masks for glowing skin

Update: 2020-06-05 01:04 IST

The lockdown has pushed us into a state where we continuously miss our comfort skincare products. But our kitchen and the fridge hold a lot of beauty secrets that might be a great replacement for our favorite skincare products. But which concoction of ingredients works best? Well, let's just dig in and find out how we can keep our skin happy with a more conscious beauty routine; now that we are perpetually home-bound.

MORNING CLEANSER

Mornings are the time when the body and the skin want to feel rejuvenated and detoxified. For that matter, we usually take green tea or warm water or even warm water with a pinch of lemon juice to kick start our metabolism, but in regards to our skin, we usually treat it with chemically enriched face washes or cleansers that make the condition of our skin worse. Well on the flip side, we have a solution! So as soon as you wake up, take one tablespoon of fuller's earth in your palm and mix apple cider vinegar to form a paste. Now gently cleanse your face with this mixture for about 1-2 minutes and rinse it off. For dry skin, apple cider vinegar can be replaced with rose water. All types of clays, naturally pull off the grime from our skin, and fuller's earth is easily available to us. This cleanser will not only make your skin smooth but will prevent acne, pigmentation, and pH misbalance from the initial use itself.

AT-HOME EXFOLIATION

Given that we are quarantined, it's difficult to see running out of our scrubs. And exfoliation is a staple in our skincare regimen for that brighter and smoother skin. But take a backseat and relax because we have a myriad of solutions available in our home. To make a great exfoliating balm, mix equal parts of moringa powder( Drumstick powder) and honey. The balm will dry up into a thick paste that can be made to spread over the face with a little bit of water. Traditionally, you can also mix besan and curd, this recipe works as a great exfoliating mask as well.

ALL THINGS GLOW MASK

Let's admit it, no more traffic woes and flexible work routines have given us ample time to explore every different kind of mask! But there are only a few recipes that work best on all skin types. To make a glow mask at-home, you need to soak one or two tablespoons of red lentils(masoor dal) or green lentils(moong dal) in milk overnight. The next morning, grind it well to form a paste, mix it with fuller's earth powder, and some oats to form a thick paste. Apply this mask after cleansing your face and wait till it's semi-dry, before washing it off. In case you are looking for some acne zapper recipe, you can mix fuller's earth with soaked cabbage(rich in sulfur) and a pinch of cinnamon. Apply this mask for 10 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water. The verdict- cleaner and tighter skin.

THE NO SKIN SAGGING MASK

Skincare in quarantine is a fairly different breed, well not dramatically but yes it is! For people hugging their arsenal of ten jars to their chests, this quarantine has made them wonder if in reality they are essential or not! Moving on to some cheap as chips anti-aging mask that we can whip-at-home, we require a half smashed avocado, chia seeds soaked in buttermilk, carrot juice, and an egg white. Blend the mixture well and apply it on your face for about 10 minutes for smoother and tighter-looking skin.
