International Tea Day 2020: The United Nations has declared 21st May as the 'International Tea Day' last year itself. Recognizing the importance of the world's oldest beverage, this International agency has blocked this date considering the proposal made by India at the International Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) Intergovernmental Group meeting which was held at Milan 4 years ago.

Tea… This is not only a beverage but also considered as a medicinal drink making the people relieve their stress and headache in minutes of gulping it down. Although in India, National Tea Day is celebrated annually on 15th December, now we all need to celebrate it today as it is the first International Tea Day since its announcement.

What Is The Importance Of The Date 21st May?

The tea production season starts in May for many countries and thus the UN has picked 21st as the 'International Tea Day' to boost the production and consumption of tea in all the countries. The main aim of International Tea Day is to improve the living of tea producers and tea workers. Although Tea manufacturers make a lot of profit, but UN aims to improve the condition of the labourers working in the tea plantations. On the whole, the purpose of International Tea Day is to improve the living of the tea workers and also fight for their rights, daily wages, social security, employment security and health.

• The International organization UN has appealed to all member countries, international and regional organizations to celebrate International Tea Day on May 21 every year with this step.

• Not only India even Nepal, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania are celebrating National Tea Day on every December 15.

• With the boost given to the tea production, the world black tea production will be increased to 44 lakh tonnes by 2027 from 33.3 lakh tonnes in 2017 according to FAO research. While, green tea production is also estimated to be 3.6 million tonnes, which was 17.7 million tonnes in 2017.
