Happy Teachers Day: Importance of Reforming Pedagogy

Update: 2019-09-05 13:44 IST

On this teachers day, let's focus on an essential aspect of educational reform and the importance of changing pedagogy in the country. Implementing child‐centred approaches in teaching methodology in our schools is the need of the hour.

Child-Centred Education

Children are already passionate about learning; teachers should support this natural process. Our children classroom classrooms should be designed to foster their ability and independence. The child should be free to choose what he/she wants to learn within limits, nurtures initiative and responsibility.

Respect Individuality

Every child learns at a different pace. Children should learn without interruption, following their passions and natural curiosity. We should support them with a balanced structure of freedom and responsibility. The activities they do should help them develop concentration, inner discipline, and metacognition (thinking about thinking).

Strengthened Curriculum

Kids should be exposed to interrelated topics repeatedly. With every repetition, some new concept should be added so that the children are exposed to awareness and understanding of the concept. This way, we can help the child to build new insights and discover new things.

Experiential Learning

We all know that kids learn with the help of their senses; they learn by touching, feeling and handling objects. The curriculum should be designed in such a way that children get to learn with experiencing things. Theoretical knowledge does not last long with them; they find it annoying and tend to lose interest soon.

Children learn with the help of their parent's, teachers and peers. During the process of learning, they get deeply connected with their teachers. The teachers also get to know each student, understand their abilities and can offer the best learning experience at precisely the right moment.
