How simple acts make someone else’ day?

"A lot of people don't realize how cold it gets during the Winter," sings Drake in 'Come Winter,' and most do not care how the homeless spend the bitterly cold days and nights, craving for a warm shelter or sheet, at least. And a group of techies, passing by moving sights of shivering people in the cold and moved by what they saw, are spreading warmth in their hearts through such simple acts as providing the much-needed blankets to the poor souls, wilting out in the open.

And how heart-warming gesture it is, indeed, as the youth are also roping in people of their ilk online to render their bit to warm up the cold souls in the streets.

A group of IT professionals are taking to crowdfunding through social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to draw the attention of people to the plight of poor in a bid to reach out to maximum number of destitutes.

It all started with distributing blankets this winter under the banner, 'Event For A Cause.' By December 1 week, they distributed around 200 blankets in areas including Nampally, Lakdikapul, Lower Tankbund, Musheerabad, RTC x Roads and Clock Tower (Secunderabad).

"We were passing by in a car and it was damn chilly and we saw a couple beside the road shivering due to the cold. Then we came up with the idea of distributing the blankets for the needy. As it is winter most of the homeless need blankets in this season," said Dheeraj Biyani, a team member. 'Event for a cause' team comprises Dheeraj, Pavani Malay, S Saish, Tanmayi Mohan, T Venkata Ramana and A Vishal.

Pavani Malay informs that they collect the funds from different sources through Instagram and Facebook. "We received a good response from the people online. We were able to raise money from social media and also our team contributed some amount. With this money we brought the blankets and distributed to the needy. Before distribution even we sanitized the blankets and ensuring all the Covid norms are followed before being distributed," he said.

Vishal, another member, says that they are encouraged by an earlier instance where they were able to help a student pay the tuition fee of the college. "On Diwali eve, we came up with the idea of Diya sale and managed to sell around 7000 Diyas and with that money helped one student pay his fees. Even in the upcoming event we are planning Christmas hamper sale to help our next idea food donation drive," he explained.

Yes, even simple and small acts such as help a lot. One act leads to another. However random they are, each deed makes a world of difference to the beneficiaries. Thousands of lives are transformed this way by scores of others drawing inspiration from groups like 'Event for A Cause.'
