The origin of National Technology Day traces back to the year 1998 when the Indian Army conducted five nuclear bomb tests known as Pokhran II in Rajasthan. These tests were conducted under the supervision of then Prime Minister Atal Vihari Bajpayee. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, hailed as the Mission Man of India, led the mission. Following the successful Pokhran II tests, India was declared the sixth nuclear nation globally. In acknowledgment of this significant milestone in India's nuclear science endeavours, Atal Vihari Bajpayee proclaimed May 11th as National Technology Day, commemorating the nation's strides in the technological sphere.
