Study Reveals Women Succeed Whey They Have A Strong Female Friendship
A recent study has shown that women with a strong support system in the form of female friends are likely to perform better in their professional lives. The study, published in the Harvard Business Review, says women surrounded by strong female friends are more likely to excel in their careers, get high-paying jobs and occupy high-ranking positions. Specifically, the study says that women who had a "female dominated one to three women's inner circle" landed "leadership positions" which were "2.5 times higher in authority and pay"
Reason Behind
It's a known fact that women rely heavily on other women for advice and support.
One of the reasons why women with strong female friends are more successful is because they always depend on their 'sisters from another mother' for advice during their time of need.
There are certain specific issues that disturb women alone that men don't necessarily face. For example, while wage gap issues and other workplace woes continue to exist globally, a woman who has navigated successfully and found her way through the scalar chain can advise other women on how to do so. A woman who is professionally negotiating her way, is also likely to turn to another strong woman for help and trust her. This, in turn, can form a network of female pals capable of motivating, encouraging and elevating each other.
Other thing that continues to haunt women around the world is the issue of casual sexism at workplace. A woman is likely to trust a female colleague when exposed to it, who can better guide her on how to combat prejudice and injustice. It is also thought that having more female colleagues in a team than male colleagues can make the work environment healthier and more productive.
Professional life and Above
While many of us have personally witnessed this in our lives, now there's research that vouches for the benefits of having strong female friends.
Every one of us has a personal life beyond professional commitments, too. And it could boost having female friends around. Numerous other studies have shown that if a woman has the emotional support of her female friends, or the people that make up her tribe, she is likely to heal from a personal trauma better. According to one such study published on the portal breastcancer.org, how a woman responds to the treatment for breast cancer, and how her survival rate depends heavily on her social connections.
