The New Year Countdown
10 minutes of meditation - Begin your day with 10 minutes of meditation like I do. These few minutes of solitude, instil within me focus and peace to get through the day. Meditation balances your hormones and calms you down.
9000 steps – I make it a point to get in my morning walk, out in the open. The fresh air vitalises my body and recharges me.
8 hours of sleep - No amount of online streaming is worth a wink of your sleep. Your body needs to repair and rejuvenate; a task best accomplished by deep sleep.
7 glasses of water - Water is the driving force of nature that is a carrier of vitamins and minerals. I would pick water as a detoxifier over a juice cleanse any day.
6 servings of whole grains - You can't spell wholesome without whole grains. Do not cut out these fibre, energy and Vitamin B packed foods.
5 servings of vegetables - I have devoured vegetables cooked as a subzi, poriyal or pickled. This ensures the multitude of phytochemicals get easily absorbed. Salads and soups are a great way to get in your greens.
4 meals - I believe in general, breakfast , Lunch, Dinner and fruit or nut snack should be sufficient. Having balanced meals at the given time helps cut out binging through the day and at night.
3 hours gap between bed and dinner - I know, this one can be hard for all of you that run to the refrigerator at night to get your fill. But trust me, you will be rid of digestive issues that follow the next day. I would suggest you sip on some soothing tulsi tea instead.
2 hours before midnight sleep - The body works on an internal clock that is synced to the natural day and night cycle. The sleep hormone melatonin begins to peak around 10pm and subsides with the first rays of the sun. Making this change will be monumental in your health journey.
1 hour no phone time in the day - With most of us working from home, this can be a challenge but we need to set boundaries for the sake of our health. Take this time to work on a creative project, do some yoga or spend to time with your loved ones.
