World physical Therapy Day

World Physical Therapy Day is observed on September 8, every year. It is celebrated to raise awareness about the crucial contribution of the physical therapists and the chronic pain therapies done by them to keep people well and fit.

Physical therapists work to undo the damage, educate on healthy behavior, and to restore lost or damaged functionality.

Chronic pain can be associated with a wide range of conditions including low back pain, cervical and thoracic pain, shoulder pain, headache disorders, cancer, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis.

This year's theme of World Physical Therapy Day or World PT Day will focus on rehabilitation and Covid-19. The purpose of the day is to focus on the delivery of physiotherapy through telehealth.

Every year, individual physical therapists and WCPT member organisations celebrate their contribution to global health on World Physical Therapy Day,

In 1996, WCPT designated 8th September as World Physical Therapy Day. This is the date WCPT was founded in 1951.

Not only is September 8th the day that World Physical Therapy Day was designated, but it is also the date that the World Confederation for Physical Therapy was founded 45 years earlier.

The day marks the unity and solidarity of the global physical therapy community. It is an opportunity to recognise the work that physical therapists do for their patients and the community.
