This mission when successfully completed India will become the fourth country to have mastered the technology of soft-landing on the lunar surface after the US, China and the erstwhile Soviet Union.
India is now only few hours away from making history. Its third lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, is all set to make a soft and successful landing on the south polar region of the Moon around 6.04pm today. The lander, which carries the Pragyaan rover, will begin its descent later this evening. "This is a very challenging mission of ISRO. It contained so many stages — firstly, Chandrayaan-3 was put into the Earth's orbit, then it was sent to Moon transfer trajectory, then it reached the Moon's orbit, and now the lander and rover have reached the pre-landing orbit. All these stages have been completed accurately," said RC Kapoor, a former professor at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics.
