Of the new local cases, 35 were reported in Shaanxi, four were reported in Henan, and two in Zhejiang, the commission said, reported Xinhua. Also reported were 50 new imported cases in nine provincial-level regions, according to the commission.

Third Covid wave starts in Delhi, 10K cases expected
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Wednesday said that the third Covid wave has started in the national capital and around 10,000 cases are expected by evening.
"The Covid cases can jump to close 10,000 today with the infection rate nearing 10 per cent by today evening in Delhi", said Minister Jain in a press briefing on Wednesday morning. With the rising Covid cases on daily basis, it is obvious now that the third Covid wave has started in Delhi, he added.
4 Bihar ministers including 2 deputy CMs test Covid positive
After doctors and medical staff, Covid infections are spreading among political leaders of Bihar.
On Wednesday, four ministers including two deputy chief ministers -- Tar Kishore Prasad and Renu Devi tested positive for the coronavirus. Besides, Excise Minister Sunil Kumar and Building Construction Minister Ashok Chaudhary also tested positive.
Omicron is not common cold, warns WHO
Amid reports that Omicron has symptoms akin to a common cold, the World Health Organisation (WHO) on Wednesday warned that it is not a common cold and should not be taken lightly.
The four most common symptoms of the Omicron variant are cough, fatigue, congestion and runny nose, according to a US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention analysis. A recent study by UK-based Zoe Covid app added nausea and loss of appetite to the category.

Uttar Pradesh schools closed, night curfew extended
The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh, in a late-night decision on Tuesday, has closed all schools up to Class 10 from January 6 to January 14 as the number of active Covid cases in the state crossed the 3,000-mark.
