Hyderabad: The Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (CDRC) has asked DMart outlet in Hydernagar in Hyderabad to pay compensation for charging customers for carry bags. Based on the complaint by Akash Kumar who was charged Rs 3.50 by DMart for a carry bag after he made purchases worth Rs 602 in May 2019. After hearing the arguments, the commission asked to pay a fine of Rs 1000 to the customer and also return Rs 3.5 that the outlet had collected from him. The commission further directed the outlet not to charge the customers for a carry bag. In August this year, DMart outlet at Hyderguda was fined of Rs 50,000 for charging money for carry bags. The commission also asked to compensate to the complainant.

Andhra Pradesh reported 103 fresh Coronavirus cases taking the total tally to 20,76,077 cases across the state. While coming to fatalities, three new deaths registered in the last twenty four hours with one in Krishna taking total toll to 14,483. On the other hand, as many as 175 new patients were cured in the last twenty four hours taking the total recoveries to 20,60,236 and there are currently 1358 active cases.  According to district-wise data, Chittoor district reported 26 new infections, followed by Guntur 16 and Visakhapatnam 12 while Kurnool district has logged the least cases with one new case in the last twenty-four hours.Read more

The Andhra Pradesh High Court was outraged at the AP government and questioned why the GOs are not uploaded on the GioIrt website. The High Court directed the government to give details of all GOs and adjourned the hearing to the 28th of this month. It is known that the AP government had earlier issued a GO stating that the GOs would be kept in the e-gazette. However, petitions were filed in the High Court against this decision which was heard on Wednesday. The lawyer for the petitioner contended that only 5% of the GOs are kept on the website while the government lawyer explained to the high court that only the most confidential GOs were not uploaded on the website. The High Court bench responded after the arguments of both the parties and outraged against the government.Read more

The customs officials on Wednesday arrested passenger at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) who tried to flee away with foreign currency. The officials said that the man possessed 25,000 Saudi Arabia riyals, 22,500 UAE dirhams and was bound to Sharjah by Indigo 6E1405 flight. They seized the currency and registered a case against the passenger. The worth of seized cash is estimated to be of worth Rs 8 lakh. The passenger has been sent for questioning. On November 23, the CISF personnel at Hyderabad airport seized Rs 13 lakh worth foreign currency from two Sudanese women. The two women were bound to Sudan's capital city Khartoum via Sharjah by an Air Arabia flight. The seized currency include USD 970 and UAE dirhams 55,000.

Telangana minister Harish Rao on Wednesday raised objection over the remarks of Union Minister Piyush Goyal on TRS ministers who visited Delhi to hold discussions on paddy procurement from the state. "Instead of speaking like a Union Minister, Piyush made remarks like a normal politician. The statement he made over the ministers is a great insult to Telangana state and damaged the self-esteem of 70 lakh farmer families," Harish Rao said.  Piyush Goyal on Tuesday made remarks that if the Telangana ministers who visited Delhi have no other work. "The appointment for the Telangana minister was denied as I was in Uttar Pradesh and then in Mumbai. I did not invite them to Delhi in any case," Piyush said. Condemning the remarks of Piyush, Harish Rao demanded an apology from the Union Minister and said that the TRS party was born for Telnagana and there is nothing important to the state more than the welfare of farmers.

The ACB sleuths have arrested panchayat secretary Pagoti Vishveshwara Rao of Ramakrishnapuram in Sarvakota mandal in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday while taking a bribe of Rs 2,000. According to ACB DSP BVS Ramanamurthy, a man from Ramakrishnapuram panchayat applied for a birth certificate in November for his job requirement, however, it has been late getting the document from the RDO. Meanwhile, the panchayat secretary, who brought the document from the RDO on the 6th of this month, demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 to give it to the victim. Former sarpanch of Sooraveedu village of Venkatapuram mandal of Mulugu district who was abducted by the Maoists was killed. In a letter released by Wajedu area committee secretary Shantha said that the former sarpanch K Ramesh was abducted on Monday while he was on his way to Cherla and was killed on Wednesday. Second case of Omicron variant was reported in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. Going into the details, a 39-year-old international traveller from Kenya has reached Tirupati from Chennai and confirmed of Omicron variant positive. The Director of Andhra Pradesh's Public Health Department Dr. Hymavati has released the press note on Wednesday stating that a 39 years old foreign traveller came from Kenya to Chennai Airport on December 10 and reached Tirupati by car. It was reported that she was tested on reaching Tirupati and declared RT-PCR positive for COVID-19 on December 12.Read more
