There's something about the local lingo that is appealing. Remember there are movies across languages that have gone on to become hits because of the local dialect. Telangana dialect in Telugu movie Fidaa, Dakhani in Hyderabadi Nawabs. Anything local makes people relate to the movie. Now, Shoojit Sircar's latest attempt Gulabo Sitabo starring two very talented actors is a case in point. I don't want to play spoilsport. But I'll just tell you what is it that makes this OTT release interesting.

Gulabo Sitabo is set in the backdrop of Lucknow, the city of Nawabs. What will keep you engaged through the movie besides Big B and Ayushmann's mindblowing actors is the local flavour of Lucknow. There are a few dialogues that are so rarely used these days, that you just want to take a bow to Shoojit's witty lines.

There is no suspense whatsoever, we all know what to expect and what this Amazon Prime Video release will bring you. The trailer itself was clear enough. But what keeps people engrossed in Gulabo Sitabo is the behaviour of two wackos (if I can call them that) in a funny way though. The squabble between the tenant and landlord is a treat to watch not to mention the backdrop.

While the central characters' love for Fatima Mahal is evident in their every gesture and dialogue, there are other characters too which don't really stand out. Yet, there's not a dull moment. Amitabh as Mirza and Ayushmann as Baankey Rastogi go all out to outshine each other in their roles.

While Juhi Chaturvedi has done a fantastic job with the script, cinematographer Avik Mukhopadhyay is brilliant in capturing the old-style haveli and night shots that complement the drama unfolding on the screen.

Verdict: Shoojit Sircar's Gulabo Sitabo is a nice try at giving the audience a slice of Lucknow, particularly the Awadhi flavour. And those with love for languages will thoroughly enjoy the movie.
