Keedaa Cola review: Generates laughter with wafer-thin plot
Tharun Bhascker who is known for making pathbreaking movies like “PelliChoopulu” and “EeNagaranikiEmandi” has come up with a crime comedy “Keeda Cola.” The man also acted in a crucial role in the film. The promotional content has caught the attention of the audience because of its content and also due to following from his previous films. The movie hits the theatres today and let’s see how it fares at box-office.
Story:
Varadaraju (Brahmanandam) his grandson Vasthu (Chaitanya Rao), and his friend Lancham (Rag Mayur) find a cockroach in a beverage bottle and decide to sue the company for huge compensation. On the other side, the jail-return Naidu (TharunBhascker) and his brother Jeevan who aspires to become a corporatorwho actually planned that come after the bottle. How they deal with the CEO of Cola company (Ravindra Vijay) and what consequences they face in it is all about “Keeda Cola.”
Analysis
Crime comedies are one of the favorite genres of the audience and they mostly are interesting unless they have an extremely weak script or a stale comedy. “Keedaa Cola” from Tharun has the wacky comedy where it needs and brings out some good loud laughs but the script is too simple to make it a great watch.
The first half of the film is mostly for establishing the characters and the plot and the comedy works here and there. Jeevan gets a meaty full-length role and his frustration fun works well. The second half gets a little better with more jokes all over. The track of Vasthu and Brahmanandamcreates humour at places.
The script is wafer-thin that most of the time the unconventional making keeps it going. The English-speaking comedy came out well every time. TharunBhascker dominates in his role with his screen presence and he is impressive. His Barbie comedy is not exciting but the conversation between Tharun and Vishnu Oi always brings fun.
TharunBhascker used many references from his movies like ‘Thagudam’ and others but only a few worked. The common character of TharunBhascker’s movies ‘Kaushik’ appears in “Keeda Cola” too, but could not match the previous two Kaushiks. Overall, TharunBhascker’s“Keeda Cola” is a wacky crime comedy that works in parts and is a time-pass watch.
Performances
TharunBhascker steals the show with his acting ease and dialogue. His acting is on par with his directional skills. Jeevan gets a full-length role and he does his job very well. Brahmanadam also appears in a full-length role and this time, he entertained with his one liners. Vishnu Oi, Chaitanya Rao, Rag Mayur and others did alright. Ravindra Vijay and Raghu Ram are usual.
Technicalities
The crisp narrative and background music of “Keeda Cola” are impressive. Vivek Sagar’s background music and rap lyrics are saviors of the film and the slow-motion scenes look good with it. As said, the crisp run time is also an asset for the film. Tharun’sactual plot is not very deep and it lacks a strong point which needs proper entertainment to save it. The film works in parts with comedy and characterizations. Keeda Cola has impressive cinematography and it is technically a very good film.
