Anushka Shetty returned to the silver screen after five years gap with “Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty.” She was last seen on screen in “Bhagamathie,”the 2018 blockbuster. On the other side, talented Naveen Polishetty who gave a blockbuster with “JathiRatnalu” is playing the protagonist in this flick. Amid high anticipation, the film has released in theatres. Let us see how this film fares at box-office.
Story
AnvithaRavali Shetty (Anushka Shetty) is a London-based master chef. She is determined to become a mother without marriage, leading her to choose stand-up comedian Sidhu Polishetty (Naveen Polishetty) as her partner for pregnancy. Sidhu remains unaware to her intentions and falls for her, only to be stunned when her true motive is revealed. Does Sidhu agree to her unconventional plan? Does he assist her in realising her motherhood dream? What drives Anvitha to make this life-altering decision? The answers to these questions is the main crux of the story.
Analysis
Director P Mahesh Babu, whose previous film “RaaRaaKrishnayya” was a debacle at the box office, has come up with this daring concept. The story is not familiar to Telugu audiences, but the director has given it a treatment that is quite in the typical style of Telugu cinema. He sprinkled humor over the entire plot.Comedy is a foolproof way to make people comfortable with potentially controversial topics. In “Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty,” director does exactly that.
Once the film establishes the motivations behind the female protagonist’s choice to have a child via AI and seek a donor herself, it follows the standard formula of a male protagonist attempting to win the heart of a female protagonist. This sort of thing happens every time in most rom-coms. Here, the only difference is that our hero has no idea of the heroine’s true intentions. The whole process of the hero trying to woo her becomes fun watch for the audience. The stand-up performance by Naveen Polishetty is a bonus.
The first half of the film entertains well. There are some slack spots in the film’s second half. It wanders all over the place before finally getting to the point. There are also unnecessary sequences of masturbation attempts, Naveen’s jokes about his father and mother etc.But the film ends with an emotional touch. Though predictable, the ending works.
On a whole, “Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty” is a time pass watch. The film works mainly to the comedy portions and Naveen Polishetty’s acting. The film struggles with a slow pace in several spots, but it wraps up nicely.
Performances
Talking about performances, the first one to be mentioned is Naveen Polishetty. He did a tremendous job as the lead actor. It is actually after the entry of his character, the film picks up the pace. He did his complete justice to the comedy coated role.
Anushka Shetty shines as a lead actress. Indeed, she takes the charge from the front and make is proceedings passable to larger extent. She is beautiful on screen and her costumes perfectly fitted to the given role and emotes her external beauty. Supporting artists such as Murali Sharma, Tulasi are okay in their given limited screen presence as Naveen Polishetty parents.Jayasudha is fine as Anushka Shetty's mother. Other artists such as Nazar, Abinavand Sonia are okay in their respective roles. The comedy scenes involving Naveen and Abinav came out is natural way and executed in an authentic manner.
Technicalities
Writer and director Mahesh Babu P impresses with his work, delivering his best output. However, more attention to screenwriting was needed.Music given by Radhan is okay and Gopi Sundar’s score is cool. Editing work is KotagiriVenkateswara Rao is fine as he kept the runtime within limits by ignoring unwanted scenes. The cinematography work by Nirav Shah is cool as he captured the entire film on a lavish note.
