Movie Review: Janhvi Kapoor's Gunjan Saxena, The Kargil Girl An Inspiring Biopic
Gunjan Saxena Movie Review: The hand that rocks the cradle can rule the world. How many times have we not come across this line? Yet the under-representation of women in top rooms across sectors and boardrooms is still a startling reality hard to accept. Women are yet to break the glass ceiling in certain areas. So, the story of Gunjan Saxena, The Kargil Girl which was released on Netflix is so much closer to a women's heart and sends out a very clear message--that nothing is impossible for a woman if she puts her mind to it. So is the life story of India's first female Pilot worth watching? Has the director done justice to the story? Let's find out.
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl stars Janhvi Kapoor playing the titular role and should I say we are impressed? When she started off her career little did we expect she could pull off such a powerful character as this someday. But I must say a new star is born after watching this movie.
The Indian Air Force may have objected to a few scenes in the movie. However, what stands out are those scenes which depict harsh challenges that women face in their workplace. This need not be true of the Air Force alone it is still true of several industries even though women hold top posts.
The latest Netflix original Gunjan Saxena The Kargil Girl is bankrolled by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and directed by Sharan Sharma. The movie stars Angad Bedi, Pankaj Tripathi, Manav Vij, Vineet Kumar Singh and Chandan Anand. The movie traces the journey of an awestruck girl who's fascinated by the view of the sky from the cockpit of a plane to her aspiration to become an aviator herself. The hardships she faced and how she overcame them to be sent on one of the most difficult missions in Kargil during the war forms the cracks of the story. The movie is solid and inspiring. Go watch it and show it to your kids too. Every second spent on this movie is worth your time because there's a lot to learn and imbibe.
Verdict: Gunjan Saxena biopic is inspiring for all those who give up when they face obstacles. Most importantly, Jahnvi Kapoor was the best choice for the role.
