SR Kalyanamandapam Movie Review & Rating {2.5/5}

Young hero Kiran Abbavaram and noted heroine Priyanka Jawalkar played the lead roles in the film SR Kalayanamandapam Est. 1975. A new director is making his debut with the film. The movie was promoted well and check out the film's review here.

Story:

Kalyan (Kiran Abbavaram) is a guy with no ambition and falls for Chinni (Priyanka Jawalkar). Kalyan does not like his father (Sai Kumar) and both don't talk to one another for almost a decade. All of a sudden, Kalyan turns ambitious and there is a purpose for the same. What is it? What is his problem with father? What happens in the end? Forms the film's story.

Performances:

This is a completely different role for Kiran Abbavaram compared to his character in Raja Varu Rani Garu. He performed very well and showed different emotions effortlessly. Another asset for the film is Sai Kumar. It has been ages since we saw him playing such a pivotal role in any film and he has completely excelled in the movie. The scenes between Kiran and Sai Kumar are the major highlights of the movie. Heroine Priyanka Jawalkar looked glamorous and had nothing exceptional to perform. However, she was decent. The rest of the actors have performed within the limits of their respective roles.

Technical Aspects:

Apart from acting, Kiran also penned the story, screenplay, and dialogues of the film. As he hails from the same region, Kiran managed to keep the soul of the area intact. The story also has nice commercial elements to make the film a success. But it was director Sridhar who faltered with his narration. Weak execution made the movie a bit disappointing. Music by Chaitan Bharadwaj is good enough. The production values are great. Cinematographer Viswas Daniel brought stunning visuals of the Rayalaseema region. His work brought a rich feel to the film. The editing work was adequate as well.

Verdict:

SR Kalyana Mandapam is a typical masala entertainer which is filled with comedy tracks, romantic angles, and good emotional sequences. The story looks like a perfect potboiler on paper but the makers failed to translate it well on the screen. Weak execution and some of the poor scene tracks make this film a bit boring. The romantic sequences are cliched and evoke no interest. But the emotional scenes work well. The first half is good and engaging while the second half is a bit boring and disappointing. On the whole, SR Kalyana Mandapam is a mixed bag and ends up as a one-time watch affair.
