Vijay's Bigil/Whistle Movie Review & Rating
Young director Atlee and Kollywood star hero Thalapathy Vijay finally joined hands for their third outing together 'Bijil'. After two super hit films like 'Theri' and 'Mersal', the expectations have been very high in this movie. Backed by AGS Entertainment banner, AR Rahman scored music for this film which grabbed the attention of the audience with the teaser and trailer of the film. Amid high expectations, the film has finally hit the theatres today and the Telugu version titled as 'Whistle' also got released today. Let's see how far the movie has succeeded in reaching the expectations.
Story:
The story of Whistle is similar to that of Chak De India and Golconda High School. The mass backdrop to the story is the major asset of the movie. Michael/Bigil (Vijay) becomes the coach to a women football team in order to fulfill his father's dream. Who is his father? What is his dream? What challenges did he face in the process of coaching the women team? Forms the story of the movie.
Performances:
Vijay's mesmerizing performance is the biggest plus point of this film. The way Vijay has pulled off such a challenging role is outstanding. The way he has showcased variations in both the roles he played is simply superb. Nayanthara looked extremely beautiful in the film. Her screen presence is an absolute delight to watch. Jackie Shroff's amazing performance also added more strength to the film. Vivek and Kathir delivered decent performances in the film. Varsha Bollamma delivered an honest performance in the film. Devadarshini and Yogi Babu acted well and will evoke some good laughs in the theatre. The rest of the actors also made their presence felt.
Technical Aspects:
Atlee has already proved that he is a pro in making commercial movies with an emotional touch and he has done it again with this movie as well. The movie has everything a movie lover wants to see and the director has made it even more enjoyable. The way he has embedded the commercial elements in an emotional story, as well as the impactful story, is quite impressive. Production values by AGS Entertainment banner are rich. Music by AR Rahman didn't go wrong as his background score has been receiving a thumping response. Cinematographer GK Vishnu has produced some sleek visuals for the film. Editing by Ruben is clean.
Verdict:
When compared to 'Theri' and 'Mersal', the way young director Atlee treated 'Bijil' doesn't have any major difference. He showcased the character of Vijay in a really entertaining way. The solid story also helped the movie and his narration made the story even more relatable to the audience. The audience can easily connect with the story in just 30 minutes of the film. The entire first half is somewhat slow but the characterizations will leave an impact on the audience. The interval block got handled exceptionally well. The pre-climax and climax sequences also got executed well. Especially, the director has succeeded in embedding an equal amount of emotions in the film and engaging the audience. On the whole, 'Whistle' is worth watching film.
