Bye bye to polluting diesel cars!

Maruti's announcement to stop selling all its diesel models by 1st April, 2020 is a direct consequence of earlier incidents.

The Supreme Court first banned the sale of all high capacity diesel cars, last year and directed that diesel cars can only be registered for 10 years in Delhi. This decision had an immediate, huge impact on diesel car sales in the national capital, which is the biggest car buying region.

Volkswagen, one of the largest car making company in the world, was caught for cheating in emission tests when the cars being probed went into a 'test' mode giving better results. When compared to petrol cars, diesel cars burns more fuel, emits greenhouse gases such as nitrogen oxides which is dangerous.

Sales of the diesel cars are continuing to fall quarter by quarter, which includes even luxury cars, as a result they launched more petrol model cars.

Technologies made diesel engines more efficient and transporters felt buying diesel vehicles will give more average than petrol even though cost of the vehicle is more than petrol car.

The new Bharat Stage VI (BS VI) emissions norms make diesel cars much more expensive.

Even though Maruti has taken a very bold step to stop diesel vehicles, it seems it has seen the future. Earlier, the German auto maker, Porsche has dropped diesel cars. And in future we may not be able to see the diesel vehicles.
