Centre's move to combat climate change laudable
India has been taking several solid steps in combating climate change. Aiming to reduce the accelerating carbon footprint, the government has introduced the clean energy cess and has been implementing the same strictly.
A strict ban on single use plastic with an aim to end their usage by 2022 scheduled to be imposed from this year Gandhi Jayanthi also comes under the same roof of environmental protection as the slower degradation of plastics release carcinogenic elements that turn detrimental to public health.
Steps like enhanced support to Zero Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF) not only combat environmental pollution arising out of chemical fertilisers but also increase the fertility of the soil resulting in a sustainable usage of natural resources.
Increased connectivity through the expansion of eco-friendly public transport systems like Metro rails also contribute substantially to the conservation of nature.
The present government has been making considerable strides in this regard.
