Stop giving freebies

The author of the article 'Govt freebies cost you dearly' has certainly and rightly focussed on the point that freebies will in fact do more harm to the society instead of raising the standard of living of the people below poverty line. It is certainly proved beyond doubt that the people who availed freebies have not utilised the monies for a productive use but have squandered the money irresponsibly as they need not repay the amounts received. Accordingly, with limited resources for increasing their revenue, the Centre as well as the States, especially, are increasing their deficit budget enormously, ultimately falling on the common man in one form of tax or other. There is absolutely no accountability and funds are diverted as per the whims and fancies of the politicians to retain power at any cost. This is a very sorry state of affairs prevailing in our country where the governments instead of giving reliefs to the tax-paying citizens, senior citizens etc increase taxes on them for getting funds. It is high time that the governments stopped giving freebies at least now and instead provide employment to all skilled\unskilled laborers in our country, making them earn their incomes with dignity and spend money with responsibility.

AP govt lends ear to employee issues

Holding of taks with AP government employees JACs is welcome as it gave an opportunity to the leaders of employees to put forward their grievances to the government and the government itself got a chance know the persistent issues of employees. It is a known fact that the implementation of 11th PRC was delayed by 38 months .Of course, it is not new to 11th PRC; even earlier PRCs were delayed though there was no pandemic-like situation in those days. Moreover, the previous government was known for passing DA arears of its period to the successive governments. As such, the present government has to pay two DAs of the previous government and five DAs of its own period. However, the present government sanctioned 27% IR to the employees as soon as it assumed power. Further, it has been implementing several welfare programmes in spite of financial constraints arising mainly on account of pandemic. In fact, the government employees are also seeking same treatment by the government. It is heartening to hear that Adviser to CM on Public Affairs that employees are part of CM's family and there is no government without employees as they have become focal point in implementation of government schemes which have been increased after Jagan Mohan Reddy became CM. Against this backdrop, the talks between JAC leaders and CMO office in the presence of the Adviser is a great relief to employees as well as government. The government must work sincerely to realise the promises given to employees on Wednesday.

Indeed, it's a treasure trove

Dr Mohan Kanda's 'Learning from the treasure troves of philosophy' is of absorbing interest besides being highly informative. If there is anyone now who has not read much so far, nothing to worry. He need not feel sorry for that. It is enough if he now on collects and preserves all parts of Mohan Kanda's 'Learning from the treasure troves of philosophy' not only in his bookshelves but also in his brain cells. There is not a single field of knowledge - secular or spiritual - which is untouched by Mohan Kanda. He must have been all through his life a voracious and omnivorous reader in spite of being an administrator busy as a bee. It is that factor that shaped him as an able and efficient administrator. It is crystal clear that he has spent every precious minute of his time reading and writing, amassing wisdom, not wealth. He has learnt quite a good deal from the treasure troves of philosophy and it is now our turn to gain it from his writings. If we want to get the nuggets of wisdom - occidental and oriental - all that we should do is to closely follow with care the columns of Mohan Kanda in The Hans India. The learners and the learned, all, will benefit from his writings, no doubt about it. Gnana dana is the best of all danas and he is doing it, with all his might.

Healing power of faith

'Understand all teachings, form own conclusion' (THI letter, Oct 14) is enlightening and let me add to the learned reader's saying,'.. arrive at your own conclusion'... 'God enlivens in them though they're theists, atheists, or agnostics.' Anybody's conclusion is based on practical experience even if he/she doesn't find time to dwell in God's teachings. Such a cardiothoracic surgeon was going to operate on a critical 7-year-old child. As usual he cheered her before going to theatre but she said, 'Uncle, my mom told me that God would dwell in my heart and as you'd open and see God in my heart, let me know how God is.' He on opening her heart was dismayed that he's failing, then recalled child's words and started praying for the first time and the nurse hinted him the positive sign of blood flow. He finished surgery and child got well. He believed in God, so God spoke through the child who trusted.

Delay in nod for Covaxin is quite perplexing

It really surprises me that Bharat Biotech has not yet been able to get the Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA) from the WHO despite so many attempts. Is WHO biased against us or there is another nasty play going on, which India is unaware of? We have administered more doses of Covaxin than of UK's AstraZeneca, mortality rate after being fully vaccinated is less than zero per cent. We bear testimony to the fact that Covaxin may not be world's best vaccine, but definitely it's one of the best vaccines. India also needs to bolster procedures for vaccinating children as they have started going to schools.
