Protect KU lands from encroachers

Kakatiya University is the second largest university in Telangana State. The history and reputation of the university lands is also very good. Varsity officials have also responded to a complaint lodged by the police over some private landlords who have recently ploughed 372 survey numbers in a village behind Kakatiya University. Kakatiya University, which covers an area of over 650 acres, has already lost some land due to some land sharks. There are various Central and State affiliated institutions in the university. Varsity officials are still fighting over them, though some have occupied the space last year. Many academics have met the authorities to discuss this through a plea bargain. Even now, the authorities are yet to respond and take strict action against those who are taking over parts of varsity lands. Universities need to maintain their autonomy. The university must take adequate measures to prevent interference. Varsity lands should be surveyed in the presence of authorities and taken up construction of protective walls. It also should take appropriate steps to prevent involvement of political parties, politicians, businessmen and private individuals in its internal issues. Both the Central and the State governments should focus on this. The Governor should take prompt action in this regard.

Govt move to privatise Railways in bad taste!

Your editorial 'Centre's privatisation spree sends wrong signal' (July 3) rightly explains the ill effects of privatisation of Railways. The government 's proposal to run 151 trains in 109 routes with private firms is disgusting. The railways are the life for the poor and the government is taking away from them. Air India, BSNL, Door Darshan, Indian Post, ISRO and now Railways all are becoming private. Privatisation means business and it is not for the welfare of people. In this government, no new jobs are created, no new recruitments are done, no new posts are created, all the posts created are surrendered. This means the government is least bothered about unemployment. Now the Modi government is forcing the unemployed youth to work in private firms with meagre payment of Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000. Now due to privatisation of Railways, the employees will drastically come down from 12 lakhs to two lakhs. The Centre is boasting that due to privatisation, there will be world class facilities to passengers. But private persons who run Tejas Express are utter failure and it is nowhere having world class facilities as claimed. Railways are the cheapest means of transport for the common people. Now with private players running trains, ticket rates will definitely skyrocket, and the poor man will be the worst sufferer. You have rightly said in your editorial that the decision of operating 109 trains through private agencies will take away the dream of Indian youth including those who belong to the socially and economically downtrodden section to get a Railway job. If this government is unable to run the trains, this government has no right to rule us.

AP CM boosts healthcare in State

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy deserves kudos for launching 108 and 104 emergency service vehicles in large numbers in his efforts to boost healthcare in the State, especially in these testing times. These vehicles equipped with latest technology will help prevent casualties due to ill-health and accidents. It is really a great move in healthcare sector and is being the need of the hour. Other States should also follow this initiative and improvise the present and existing 108 vehicles. As we are witnessing the number of positive cases increasing day by day, urgent steps should be initiated to contain the pandemic. if this continuous to spread like this, we will be in great danger and at the same, Hyderabad city will lose its charm. The Telangana government should realise this and provide the best medical infrastructure to its people. Hope for the best.
