None trust the netas

If wishes were horses and promises magic wands, poverty would have been eradicated a long time ago. It is election time and promises from politicians and parties will come thick and fast. Rahul Gandhi's minimum income guarantee offer is on the same lines as that of Modi's. One fails to understand where and how the government or the Congress, which has now come out with this offer, will get this money from.

The state will use the taxpayers' money to feed the poor. The politics of opportunism to gain access to the corridors of power is deep-rooted in our political landscape. Happily, in the last 70-plus years of electoral politics if our people have learnt one thing, it is not to take politicians at their face value - there is a wide chasm between what they say and what they do.
