Pragya's comments condemnable

It was disgusting to read about the comments made by BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Bhopal Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur on late Mumbai ATS chief Hemant Karkare.

Bu doing this, she not only violated the Model Code of Conduct but also insulted a brave police officer who lied down his life on the line of duty.

Thakur, who is contesting against Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, had said on April 18 that Karkare lost his life because she had cursed him.

It may be noted here that Sadhvi Pragya is an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. Ashok Chakra awardee late Sri Hemant Karkare made the supreme sacrifice fighting terrorists.

The entire nation condemns the insulting statement made by the candidate. She should know how to respect the sacrifices of all our martyrs. The BJP cannot simply distance itself from the controversy, stating that her comments were personal.

The BJP also tried to justify her by telling the remarks were probably due to the "mental and physical torture" she underwent during the investigation in the Malegaon case. It is ridiculous to see responsible political parties are stooping to such a low.
