Total English medium schools not viable

Update: 2019-11-14 00:51 IST

The Andhra Pradesh government seems to have a mirage, keeping high hopes on English medium. If we try to know the grassroot reality, sixty percentage of elementary schools in rural areas are damp squib in attaining minimum learning levels even in Telugu medium. There are manifold reasons for this failure. God only knows how the things will be in English medium.

We should be mindful to set a fundamental target for the fifth class student to read a newspaper confidently and be able to solve fourfold skills of mathematics. Until and unless scaffolding the elementary students up to minimum learning levels in Telugu medium is done, it would cripple the learning in English and turn the students bilingual degeneracy.

Complete English medium in rural areas is not viable. Let them understand the content in Telugu medium. It could be better to establish complete English medium schools two or three per a mandal. Undoubtedly English has become a part and parcel of our life. We have to take steps regarding improvement of English knowledge. The government has to rethink about it and add communicative English as one of the subjects from third class.
