10 transgenders held for extortion of money in Hyderabad

The Bachupally police on Saturday arrested 10 transgenders who had demanded Rs 20,000 from a family and later threatened them when the family refused to pay them money.

Getting into details, the transgenders went to the house of one P Chalapathi (55) at Pragathinagar in Bachupally when the family was conducting Satyanarayana Swamy pooja at their house. They demanded Rs 20,000 and created a nuisance and threatened when they refused to pay. However, the family gave Rs 16,500 to drive them away.

The family then informed the police over the nuisance created by the transgenders. The police arrested the transgenders and recovered Rs 16,500 and seven mobile phones from them. A case of extortion was registered against them and an investigation is on.

The police asked the people to dial 100 and inform them if transgenders visit their houses or commercial establishments for money.
