100% electrification of Indian Railways by 2023
Secunderabad: Indian Railways is taking several initiatives towards implementation of environment-friendly policies on its entire network. As part of this, around 60 per cent route Km of track has been electrified and further set, a target to complete 100 per cent electrification of Indian Railways network by 2023, informed Manju Gupta, Additional Member (Electrical), Railway Board.
Gupta was speaking at the inaugural of a three-day 'National Green Rail Seminar' here on Wednesday. She said that Indian Railways already provided 100 per cent LED lighting at all the railway stations, and solar panels were provided at a majority of railway stations and service buildings to draw renewable energy.
Around 800 railway stations all over the nation have been provided with airport standard lighting. B B Singh, Additional General Manager, SCR, stated, "Indian railways is also planting one crore saplings every year to improve the green coverage and so far around 15,000 square Kms of land has been provided with green coverage."
A A Phadke, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, SCR, C Shekar Reddy, Chairman, IGBC, Hyderabad Chapter, K S Venkatagiri, Executive Director, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-GBC were present.
