155 accidents due to drunk driving in 2020: CP Sajjanar

Hyderabad: Cyberabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar said that a total of 155 accidents took place this year claiming 166 lives terming the drunk drivers as the terrorists on roads.

"As many as 928 drunk driving cases have been registered in the last three days i.e, since December 28 while 3387 cases have been booked in the whole December month. All those who are involved in the accidents were found to be aged between 21-40 years," Sajjanar said adding that all were booked under section 185 of Motor Vehicles Act and were sent to the court.

Around Rs 10,000 penalty and or imprisonment of up to 6 months for the first offence and Rs 15,000 and or imprisonment of two years for the second or subsequent offence will be imposed besides the driving licenses all would be suspended, the CP said.

The license would be suspended for a period of three months for the first offence and for the second and subsequent offences, the license of the person will be permanently cancelled.

The commissioner said that all those who were caught driving drunk were educated and employed persons. Sajjanar said that to prevent the accidents caused to drunk driving, massive checking has been launched in Cyberabad to arrest the people driving under the influence of alcohol.
