2,815 held for drunk driving in July

Hyderabad: The city traffic police is continuing its drive against the drunken drivers to ensure road safety. In July, the city traffic police caught 2,815 drivers who were driving in inebriated condition. The 3rd and the 4th Metropolitan Magistrate Courts at Nampally Courts imposed a fine amount of Rs 61,35,400 on traffic violators.

According to Anil Kumar, Additional Commissioner-Traffic, charge-sheets were filed against all the violators and they were produced before the courts. In this regard, 480 respondents were awarded imprisonment ranging between 10 days till the rising of the court.

In addition, 10 violators were jailed also jailed for not possessing driving licence. All the violators sentenced for imprisonment were sent to Chanchalguda Jail. Two respondents' driving licences were permanently cancelled and 60 driving licenses suspended for a period ranging from one month to six years.

Anil Kumar also said that the respondents who were convicted in drunk and drive and other cases may face difficulties in getting government jobs, passport and visa clearance. The violators who committed the offence were also counselled at Traffic Training Institute (TTI) at Goshamahal and Begumpet. "The drive against the drunken driving and other violations will continue for the safety of the commuters on road," he added.
