47 one-acre theme parks to dot city
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has identified 47 one-acre plots to develop thematic parks in the city. Of them, 12 parks would be based on solid waste management theme. Each zone would have two parks.
A senior official of GHMC said that vacant lands would be best utilised with parks based on a particular theme that would go a long way in sensitising citizens on important topics such as rainwater harvesting, e-waste and other issues.
The Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) provided expertise on 12 themes. D Jyothsna, senior research associate, ASCI, said they, along with EcoPro, an NGO, planned 12 thematic parks. The themes are: Compost, waste to wealth, eco-park (using plastic waste), waste to wonder, waste typology, waste to energy, dry waste resource park, innovation in SWM, e-waste, 3 Rs among others.
All parks may differ in their theme but would have certain standard features such as play area, physically handicapped friendly toilets, wastewater treatment system, drinking water facility, rainwater harvesting, wall painting and Swachhta products by SHGs.
Officials say that the parks would double up as centres of knowledge as visitors would be benefitted about various topics through video screens, photo exhibitions, models on display, demonstration machines, creative boards, wall paintings, games and 3D movies.
