6 eggs & 3 kg rice for 1 kg plastic at Boduppal

Boduppal: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. A resident of Boduppal, Mamidala Prashanth, emulated the novel initiative of Mulugu District Collector C Narayana Reddy who started a scheme of providing 1 kg of rice in exchange of plastic to the poor people.

Replicating it in the city, Prashanth, who works as a project manager in Netcracker Technology, said, "I shared the idea with my friends Venkatesh Chary and S Naveen. Locals and Boduppal municipally officials too helped us and around Rs 20,000 was collected for this project."

"Once we collect sufficient amount of plastic then we would give to Crapbin Waste Management Company for recycling propose. This mission started on Saturday and till date we distributed 4 kg rice. We plan to do this every Saturday," said Venkata Chary, resident of Boduppal.

Apart from this, they are also planning to distribute three notebooks or a geometry box in exchange of 1 kg plastic from each student of government schools. "To make this a regular event, we are planning cloth banners to spread awareness to every nook and corner of the locality, so that the menace of plastic is reduced and also the poor people get some food," added Prashanth.

COMBATING PLASTIC MENACE
