794 hotels penalised for using banned plastic in Nov

Hyderabad: In a strong move, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in the month of November imposed fines on 794 hotels and restaurants across the twin cities for using banned plastic. It collected several lakhs of rupees in fines from the hotels in twin cities, besides seizing the stock.

In September to November, the highest amount of Rs 2,72, 21,300 was collected by levying fines on 3,231 hotels and restaurants in the month of October. In October, maximum number of hotels and restaurants from circles of Lingampally, Chanda Nagar and Serilingampally were fined for using single use plastic. The data also reveals that in November, 794 hotels and restaurants were fined for using banned plastic.

A total of Rs 7,03,600 was collected from these hotels and restaurants. Shruthi Ojha, Additional Commissioner GHMC, Sanitation wing said, "The respective AMOH's and Commissioners have been conducting several drives and inspections in the hotels and restaurants to sensitise on the use of plastic products. From 2020, we would speed up the work of inspection in these hotels."
