A flyover opens, two more on the anvil

Hyderabad: It was a historic day in more ways than one for the city. The much-awaited second level biodiversity flyover was finally thrown open to public here on Monday. It took three years to complete the flyover that cost Rs 69.47 crore.

MA&UD Minister K Taraka Rama Rao inaugurated the flyover. Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, Chevella MP Dr G Ranjith Reddy, MLA Arekapudi Gandhi, TSIIC chairman Gyadari Balamallu, deputy mayor Md Baba Fasiuddin, GHMC Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar were present.

Stone laid for two more flyovers

A six-lane bidirectional flyover will be constructed in the direction of Kondapur side towards ORR at second level crossing Gachibowli junction. The other flyover is a 4-lane bidirectional flyover from Shilpa layout to ORR near Gachibowli junction under engineering procurement and construction (EPC)/turnkey mode.

These flyovers will be coming under Serilingampally assembly constituency and the estimated cost is Rs 330 crore. The estimated period of completion of the project is 24 months. A vehicular underpass will also be constructed across the existing gas godown road.

The construction of the flyover aims to reduce the traffic in the city. There will be traffic relief at Gachibowli Junction and result in better connectivity between Hi-Tec city and financial district. The project was sanctioned on May 23, 2018.

MAKING CITY SIGNAL-FREE

The Telangana government embarked on Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) with an outlay of Rs 25,000 crore. The GHMC is taking up various developmental works including flyovers, under pass and corridors.

Eight such projects: Mind Space Under Pass, Chinthala Kunta Under Pass, Ayyappa Society Under Pass, Mind Space Flyover, Kamineni Hospital left side Flyover, LB Nagar Flyover, Bio-Diversity Flyover-1 are included.
