Additional sections sought in Gurukul schools
Musheerabad: National president of BC Welfare Association R Krishnaiah urged Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to consider starting additional sections in SC, ST, BC, minority Gurukul schools in view of large number of applications received for admissions. He was speaking after his meeting with BC student associations held here at BC Bhavan on Thursday.
Krishnaiah said there is great demand for Gurukul seats in the State and a total of 1,46,417 applications were received for 49,300 seats in Gurukul schools. As there is a great demand for a seat in Gurukul seats, applicants and their parents are striving hard to get seats in the schools. Last year, parents of the students visited offices of the schools even after completion of three phases of admission process.
He requested the CM to consider giving seat to all those who have applied for the seat. He suggested to increase the number of seats in the residential schools and many more students can be accommodated if the government schools are converted into residential hostels and semi-residential hostels. Agreeing to the fact that educational standards may fall if more students are admitted into Gurukul schools, he said that strength can be increased by adding additional sections only for fifth and sixth standards in every Gurukul school.
He also recommended adding of seventh standard in all the newly opened 119 BC Gurukul schools as in the past. He said that all the Gurukul schools are being run in rented buildings and there is need to construct new permanent buildings for Gurukul schools.
There is a great demand for college hostels in district headquarters as well as in cities of the state, he said. He requested the CM to sanction additional 150 college BC hostels in various urban centers in the state to meet the demand. Stating that at least 251 BC college hostels do not have own buildings, he urged the CM to construct new buildings for the existing BC college hostels.
Among those who were present on the occasion include national vice president of BC welfare association Gujja Krishna, state president of BC youth association Neela Venkatesh, president of BC rights protection forum Cherukuri Rajender, state president of BC student association Jillapalli Anji, Ananthaiah, Jaipal Mudhiraj, Anjaneyulu, MudhiManikyam, Mahender Goud and others.
