AIDWA, CITU organise Bathukamma festivities
Patancheru: The Bathukamma festivities were organised here on Wednesday by All India Democratic Women's Association( AIDWA ) and Centre of Indian Trade Unions( CITU), with AIDWA Telangana general secretary Mallu Lakshmi and president Ashalata participating.
Addressing the women, they accused the State government of failing to provide security to women and being negligent towards them. They cited the recent cases of rape of both minors and aged women.
The AIDWA leaders alleged that although women constitute 50 per cent of the population people in power and public representatives failed to give due recognition to them, 'forgetting their responsibility'. They demanded steps to ensure social justice to women, while advising them to fights as one to achieve the same.
The leaders recalled Gandhiji's remark that real freedom meant women being able to walk freely at midnight, adding that this was yet to be realised. This was evident from assaults on women even during day, who lacked safety. The AIDWA leaders called upon women to initiate steps to protect the environment. Among those present were district AIDWA Nayini Lalitha, Suneeta, CITU district general secretary Narsimha Reddy, women from various colonies.
