Aim at 2.75 cr saplings, says Collector Ayesha Masrat Khanam to officials

Vikarabad: District Collector Ayesha Masrat Khanam suggested the sarpanches to take up the responsibility of completing the construction of individual lavatories and make villages Open Defecation Free on part of Swachh Bharat programme. An awareness programme was orgnanised on construction of individual lavatories and Haritha Haram for sarpanches, here at Ambedkar Bhavan on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said though this programme has been taken up for five years, the district did not become ODF. Awareness programmes are being conducted for the public and sarpanches also take initiative and sensitise people of respective villages to complete the task, she said. She assured of complete cooperation from the officials. Speaking about the Haritha Haram programme, the Collector said the target for this year is to plant 2.75 crore saplings. She said nurseries in the villages should be protected and make sure that palm and tamarind trees each five percent in every nursery.

She suggested them to take necessary steps to improve ground water levels and see that water harvesting pits be constructed. She announced that Rs 4,000 will be given towards construction of the pits. She also explained them about segregation of wet and dry waste in the villages. MLA Dr Anand said all these works should begin with the houses of sarpanches. RDO Vishwanadham, DWO Jyotsna, SC Corporation ED Moses, MPDOs, sarpanches were present.
