AIYF, SFI lay siege to Medchal Collectorate

Medchal: Activists of AIYF and SFI of Medchal-Malkajgiri district committee laid siege to the Collectorate on Thursday after taking out a huge rally from the Office Kaman in which more than 700 students participated. They squatted on the premises protesting against poor students not getting the benefit of education in Telangana State.

State SFI vice-president Thatikonda Ravi and Medchal district secretary Rathod Santosh, who submitted a representation to DRO Madhukar Reddy demanded taking steps to regulate fees in private/corporate educational institutions, creating basic facilities in government schools, filling up of the vacant posts of teachers/lecturers, constructing building to locate SW hostels, releasing of pending scholarships/fees reimbursement immediately, setting up of government junior/degree colleges in Mandals, takeover of the Ghatkesar Gurukul land for locating government educational institutions and the implementation of the Right to Education Act.

The two leaders wanted the government to release the pending bills of hostels immediately and drop the proposal to shut its educational institutions, to implement mid-day meal scheme in government junior colleges and to wind up unrecognized educational institutions. They warned that if the government failed to concede their demands, the agitation would be intensified.

Among those who took part in the dharna were Medchal district unit president Sai Kiran, vice-president Padala Shankar, Srikanth Reddy, district leaders Chandrakanth, Sai and Himavardhan.
