All India Democratic Students Organisation slams CBSE over fee hike

Basheerbagh: All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) has held a protest meeting in Arya College against the decision of fees hike by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Students in large numbers strongly condemned the rampant fee hike by CBSE and held protest demonstrations across India against this deplorable action of CBSE.

"The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has increased the fees of class 10 and 12 Board examinations. According to the revised fee structure, the general category students, who were paying Rs. 750 earlier will now pay Rs 1,500 for five subjects, whereas, the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students will have to pay Rs 1,200 for five subjects.

Again, the general category students will also have to pay Rs 300 for an additional subject instead of Rs 150 earlier. Similarly, the SC and ST students, who were earlier not supposed to pay any extra fee, will have to pay Rs 300. Even the migration fee which was Rs 150 earlier, has also been increased to Rs.350," said Ashok Mishra, General Secretary, AIDSO.

The CBSE has deplorably clarified that the move of hiking the fees has brought the fees structure on par with that of other Boards. Needless to say, there was no need of such fee hike. However, this hike in examination fees will eventually lead to the fees hike will have na cascading effect.

It will further commercialize the education system in the schools affiliated to the CBSE, particularly in the government-run Kendriya Vidyalayas. As a result, many meritorious students in general and SC & ST students in particular will be deprived of their right to pursue their studies in these schools.
