Alternative roads to end traffic problems
Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to lay alternative roads in areas with heavy traffic in areas across the city, said its Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar at a meeting on Wednesday.
As part of making Hyderabad signal-free city, many projects under SRDP such as underpass, flyovers and others have been launched. In addition to these, GHMC also decided to arrange alternative roads for 100-km stretch from February or March to avoid traffic snarls in the city.
Lokesh Kumar disclosed: "There are no hurdles to the alternatives roads except property acquisition in some areas. A Rs 200 crore budget is prepared for these roads, which roads will reduce traffic density gradually on the present roads."
The Commissioner also added that, "Nearly 709 km main thoroughfares will be given for private agencies for management as per tenders which are in process. It nearly costs Rs 900 crore for maintenance of these highways and the government is ready to allocate the budget."
