Anti-mosquito ops apace at 47 tanks under GHMC

Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is implementing a perfect plan to prevent mosquito menace. GHMC Irrigation and lakes department and entomology department are busy removing hyacinth from tanks and ponds.

GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore paid a surprise visit to Shaikpet Kotha Cheruvu and inspected the ongoing works. He said entomology department has taken up a special drive to clean up the 47 lakes that are considered main sources for mosquito breeding. "Hyacinth removal and anti-larva operations have already been carried out in 15 out of these 47 lakes."

Entomology department is using anti-larva and fogging process apart from removing hyacinth to prevent breeding of mosquitoes. 58,323 Gambusia fish have been released into 513 water bodies including tanks and ponds.

A total of 42 teams have been doing spraying and cleaning process in Moosi River stretch from Attapur to Nagole Bridge. "Using 13 vehicles that are equipped with fogging machines, the staff is able to prevent mesquites in 40,000 houses every day," he added. Hyderabad zonal commissioner Musharaff Ali, deputy commissioner Seva, EE Ram Prakash and others accompanied Dana Kishore.
