Begumpet: Demanding immediate postings, the selected teacher candidates tried to lay siege to Pragathi Bhavan on Tuesday, but their attempts were foiled by the police.

The teacher candidates, students and others who came in groups to participate in the protest from 8 am were immediately arrested and shifted to various police stations.

Osmania University students were not allowed to reach the venue. The group led by BC Welfare Association vice-president Gujja Krishna and BC leader Ramakrishna were arrested and shifted to Panjagutta police station.

Speaking on the occasion, BC leaders alleged that the police had made preventive arrests of the selected teacher candidates coming from districts. Gujja Krishna accused the state government of threatening the parents of selected teacher candidates not to send their children to the protest and they even took written assurances from them.

He criticised the state governments for its indifference and callousness towards the unemployed youth. He warned of an intensive agitation if the state government failed to issue postings to the selected candidates.
