Back-breaking ride for motorists at AOC

Update: 2019-11-17 23:17 IST

West Marredpally: The junction at AOC centre connects four different areas – Neredmet, Safilguda, West Maredpally and East Marredpally. For vehicle owners, commuting through the AOC has become a backbreaking journey, and for car owners a potential hole in their pocket.

On some stretches, the bitumen (BT) over the roads had washed away which resulted in muddy and slimy roads. On some stretches, the path is filled with gravel and pebbles, which is the main cause for two-wheelers skidding and riders incurring injuries.

"Before monsoon started, we were able to repair 30 per cent of the roads by then, but the rains damaged those roads as well. So, we had to wait for the monsoon to get over. Now that the monsoon is over, we would be taking up repair works at the earliest," said J Ramakrishna, SCB Ward 5 member.

Pramod G, a resident of Safilguda and a regular commuter through AOC centre, shares, "The roads here turned from bad to worse by each passing day. Commuters especially bikers have to suffer a lot. The risk increases in the night-time as there are no streetlights, it becomes difficult to spot a pothole from a distance."

The roads are narrow and covered with potholes due to which after dusk traffic congestion has become a daily feature inconvenience to the commuters, especially the two-wheelers. Adding to this, there are no streetlights all over the AOC roads which lead to complete darkness in the area in the evening hours.

KS Rao, another resident of Neredmet, shares, "There is constant traffic jams on this route because of the road conditions which also causes several minor accidents." Commuters traveling from JBS towards Secundrabad Club have to negotiate their way through potholed roads and traffic congestion most of the time.
