Bairamalguda Lake revival commences
LB Nagar: The Bairamalguda Lake will soon be clean and the drainage water that is being let into it would be diverted through underground pipelines. Work on the lake under Mission Kakatiya started in the first week of March and officials say that in the rainy season the lake would again fill up.
Ram Infratech bagged the contract for Rs 2.7 crore and expects to complete the project in the next three months. Shyam, engineer of Ram Infratech, said, "We have dewatered the lake as it was filled with drainage water. There is a plan to also build a running track for morning walkers. The lake will henceforth have only rainwater as the drainage water would be diverted."
"A resident close to the lake said that it was a welcome relief as the stench was unbearable and people have been reeling under mosquito menace. There is already a marked improvement after the work started," said Naveen.
"Apart from the lake becoming clean, the running track is welcome too as people in the area can now make use," said B Srinivas, a resident of Bairamalguda. There is also a hospital close to the lake and the administration are now are heaving a sigh of relief as smell has drastically reduced and they expect more patients.
"The work is going on, but there is no guarantee about its completion because it is just an election stunt to gather voters from this area as we can understand by the movement of the work going. Not more than 10 workers are working. If this goes on at the current pace, it may take two more years to complete," says Srinivas, a local.
