Beautician trapped in Kuwait rescued

Chanchalguda: The Indian Embassy in Kuwait and Saifabad Police jointly rescued a divorcee who aspired to become a beautician in Kuwait and was promised a salary of Rs 35,000 and who ended up as a domestic helper.

According to MBT spokesman, Amjedullah Khan who pursued the matter with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, the victim Mehraj Begum, a resident of Bansilalpet in Secunderabad who was facing financial problems after her husband gave divorce to her, was seeking better financial prospects.

She was in search of a job for her livelihood and was approached by travel agents. They offered a job to work as a beautician in Kuwait and promised a salary of Rs 35,000. She went to Kuwait on Dec 5, 2017 and was received by another lady agent Janki of Mashaal Shaheen Hilal, a manpower consultant office, and later, she was sold for Rs 2 lakh to Mohammed Buti Mohammed Najmi and was asked to work as a housemaid in two houses.

Mehraj Begum was made to lift heavy materials from ground floor to second floor and when she refused she was tortured. She was forced to work 15 hours a day without proper food and accommodation. When she fell ill she was denied medicine and not given any salary in 4 months.

"When she wanted to return, her Kafeel demanded Rs 2.50 lakh to release her. When her mother contacted the local agents they did not respond to her. She approached me for help, I took up her case with Sushma Swaraj, The Indian Embassy in Kuwait, NRI Dept Govt of Telangana and Saifabad Police, as the agent was having his office there," said Amjedullah Khan.

"Due to unbearable torture, she ran away from Kafeel's house and was provided shelter at the Indian Embassy in Kuwait. After much persuasion by the Ministry for External Affairs, NRI Dept Govt of Telangana, The Indian Embassy in Kuwait and Saifabad Police rescued her," he added.

After reaching Hyderabad she met Amjed Ullah Khan and thanked him, Sushma Swaraj, the officials at The Indian Embassy in Kuwait and Saifabad Police for taking up her case and rescuing her.
