Serilingampally: State BJP Executive Committee member Jnanendra Prasad inspected the Eerla Chevuru in Madinaguda in Hafeezpet division on Thursday called for steps to ensure that it is not polluted.

He pointed out that already the drainage water from apartments in Hafeezpet, Vaishalinagar, Subashchandrabosenagar, Marthandnagar, Adityanagar, Sarovarnagar and HIG Phase II was flowing into the water body polluting it. He alleged that none seemed to be bothered about the contamination because of which fish was perishing causing severe loss to fishermen.

Prasad stated that although crores had been spent in the name of purification of the Cheruvu, it did not seem to have any impact on the pollution, as the amounts were allegedly pocketed by contractors. He demanded that the officials concerned ensure that the drainage water from the apartments did not flow into the Cheruvu by putting up a sewerage plant.

The BJP leader threatened to stage a massive dharna along with fishermen at the municipal and mandal offices if no remedial action is taken. Local leader Mallesh Yadav said although crores were spent under the Mission Kakatiya scheme only a walking track was provided adjacent to Eerla Cheruvu and no justice was done to the fishermen.

He alleged that although the issue was taken many times to the notice of local MLA Arekapudi Gandhi, Corporator Pujitha, besides the municipal and mandal officials , none had bothered to take note. Yadav demanded immediate steps to prevent mixing of drainage water in the cheruvu while warning to stage a sit-in at government offices along with members of local families.

Among those present were president of fishermen's organisation G Krishnayya, vice-president Pentayya, secretary Mallesh, representatives Anjaneyulu, Satyanarayana, Yellayya, Ravi, Ashok, Prashanth, Mallesh, Kumar.
