Update: 2019-10-30 00:15 IST

Bowenpally: Very soon the Dr Ambedkar Vegetable Market Yard would be expanded. The market officials are planning to submit a proposal to the state government as directed by Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy.

"There are more than 400 vegetable sellers who are struggling to sell their produce every day, as the market is very congested. Also, internal roads are not properly laid. Daily more than 2,000 costumers visit the market," said YJ Padma Harsha, Deputy Director of Marketing at Bowenpally Vegetable Market Yard. To cater to the needs of farmers and consumers, there is a need to expand the market, improve internal roads inside and also construct multi-level parking spaces to reduce the rush.

"Last Wednesday Agriculture Minister, Singireddy Niranjan Reddy visited the market, he suggested to us to come up with a proposal for the expansion of the market and also there is an LIC land abutting the market, which is not in use and can be taken for lease," said the official.

It is the major market yard in the twin city. It supplies vegetables to almost 13 States and also provides some 15 tonnes of vegetables in the city every day. By the first week of November we would send a written plea to the state government regarding the extension and as soon as we get nod from them as well as sufficient funds, we would begin the construction," added Padma Harsha.

"If the market is expanded, it would provide a great relief to us, as daily we are struggling to adjust in the market and sell our vegetables," said Hari Babu, a vegetable vendor at the market.
