Campaign to save ryots held at IPL match venue

Uppal: Members of an NGO 'Save Global Farmers," wearing green towels on their shoulders, showed play cards at the IPL cricket match and raised slogans of 'Jai Jawan Jai Kisan,' during the match to raise awareness among people on the plight of farmers. Play cards with the message to spend 1 per cent of IPL match revenues for farmer welfare were displayed. They also demanded pensions to senior farmers, abolition of intermediaries, and declaring of support price for turmeric.

Speaking on the occasion, the president of Save Global Farmers, Ravindra Ryada, said that their organisation has been conducting awareness programmes during matches for farmer welfare. He appealed to the organizers of IPL, the state cricket associations, to come forward to help farmers. He also called upon people to come forward to save farmers who provide food to the nation but are struggling to make both ends meet.

Telangana convener of the organization Akula Mohan, vice-president Shravan, Nizamabad district convener E Ravinder, farmer leader Ganesh Venkati, Malyala Narsa Reddy, Ashok, IT convener P Praveen and other members of the organisation were present on the occasion. The organisation conducted several innovative programmes such as 'Kaulu Raithu Challenge' to help tenant farmers and carried out an online signature campaign for support price to turmeric crop in the past.
