Child healthcare needs more focus: Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan

Hyderabad: Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on Wednesday said that child healthcare was in need of more attention in order to reduce infant mortality rate. The Governor stated that it was high time that more equipment and infrastructure was created to ensure better infant and maternal care. She called upon the donors to supplement liberally to the existing infrastructure and medical equipment.

Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan appreciated the donation of three ultra sound scanning machines by Synchrony Financials, Hyderabad, at the Raj Bhavan. The Niloufer Children's Hospital and MNJ Cancer Institute were given one ultrasound scanning machine each, while the Raj Bhavan Dispensary was also given one scanning machine.

The donated GE-make ultrasound scanning machines are of compact in-built, portable and could be taken to the patient to perform the ultrasound scanning. The Governor appreciated the efforts of Synchrony Financials, Hyderabad, and its staff for donating three machines fora noble cause as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan reminisced her medical practitioner days and said that in order to help the poor patients, she used to offer the ultra sound scanning test for a subsidized price of only Rs 100 in those days it had immensely benefited many poor patients. "We need more and more corporate entities and other charitable institutions, and other philanthropists to donate the vital medical equipment to the government hospitals so as to help the poor get better medical services," she added.

Synchrony Financial Business CEO Andy Ponneri, Vice-President-HR G Kameswari,project leader D Santosh Kumar, Wipro GE Health Care head Satish Kumar J, Secretary to Governor, K Surendra Mohan, Niloufer Hospital Neonatology Head Dr Madireddy Alumelu, MNJ Cancer Institute director Jayalatha, and Raj Bhavan dispensary Doctors Dinesh and Naga Mani were also present.
